Globally, lab animal welfare is making the rounds. Scientists, animal researchers, the scientific community and the public are all in a frizzy of ensuring that animals used in research, education and testing of any sort are use only on conditions met in according to consensus regulations or legislations that are National or regional.
An important regulation is training of personnel who work with animals, either as carers/handlers; conduct procedures on animals or those who design and supervise project proposal using animals. The degree of training varies but are adequate for each category. It is essential that before any personnel is allowed to handle an animal, the level of competence of the personnel is assured and certified. This is a critical welfare factor that has significant impact on the outcome of data generated from the use of the animal.
